We're honored to have Karen Hunter, the president of the new digital publishing company FIRST ONE Publishing, and Yvonne Bynoe, the founder of SoulAffluence.com, join our Cultural Circle Conference on April 16, 2011. This year's writers conference will focus on the limitless opportunities available for writers in digital publishing.

African Voices Cultural Circle Conference - April 16, 2011
The Circle Conference connects writers and visual artists with the resources they need to pursue careers in publishing and the arts. The annual conference offers workshops that provide information on exploring opportunities for writers and artists interested in independent and mainstream publishers and using new technology to promote their work. The conference will be held at African Voices, 270 W. 96th Street (bet. Bway & West End Ave.). Registration Fee: $25. Date: April 16, 2011. Time: 12:30 pm-6:30 pm. Seating is limited so register now! Create Your Writing Destiny: Novels, E-Books & Niches is the theme of this year's Circle Conference. Professional editors, publishers and authors will come together to share their successful journeys in carving out a prosperous writing career through finding their niche and voice. From teen novels to business magazines, many writers launch their careers as niche writers specializing in specific genre then exploring limitless possibilities once they establish an audience. Karen Hunter, the president of FIRST ONE Digital Publishing, and Yvonne Bynoe, the founder of SoulAffluence and author of Stand & Deliver: Political Activism, Leadership and Hip Hop Culture, will explore ways writers can live abundantly as artists by building an audience for their work.
Circle guests include Tania Padgett, the small business editor of CNNMoney.com; Atim Annette Aton, publisher of Calabar Magazine; Caren Estesen, founder of the Caren Johnson Literary Agency and a blogger for the Gatekeeperspost.com; and Rosalind Mcylmont, executive editor of The Network Journal. IS POETRY THEATER?
Award-winning writer/poet reg e. gaines will offer a transforming workshop on bringing your poems and other writings to the stage. Artists are given in depth analysis of poetry, which has made critical and financial transition to the world of Theater. Poems are "learned by heart" and analyzed in areas of technique, structure and form. Texts used in Phase 1 are Shakespeare verse, and poems from Poetry/ Theater hybrids: Danny Hoch's, "Jails/Hospitals/and Hip-Hop", Marcella Goheen's "BLAK", Jerry Quickley's, "Live From The Front", Regie Cabico's "Straight/ Out", The Brick City Players, "Brick City Blues", "Def Poetry on Broadway" and reg e gaines' Tony/Grammy nominated, "Bring in da "Noise/Bring in da Funk" and "Other Aspects", winner of the 2003 Downtown Urban Theater Festival's Best Play Award. The NuyoRican School presents Poetry Meets Latin Jazz with guest poets Brenda Connor-Bey and Louis Reyes Rivera, featuring musicians Edy Martinez, Gene Golden, Vincent George, Dave Valentin and Ray Martinez. The suggested donation is $15.00.
Under artistic director Américo Casiano, the NuyoRican School Poetry Jazz Ensemble has been producing programs for over 20 years, blending poetry and Jazz as complementary art forms, sometimes merging the two, other times allowing each to solo, thereby extending both their mutual and particular range.
