How to Naturally
Lighten Your Hair
You’ve done the work, gone through the awkward growing-out of your processed hair stage, tenderly treated your tresses and you’re proud that you can call yourself an all-natural hair mama. Now, you want to add some pizzazz to your tresses in the form of color. But please, you’re not about to go to the local drugstore and throw some boxed dye into your luxurious hair.
So what’s a naturalista who wants some tint to do? Try this tip for gradually coloring your hair naturally with the main ingredient: honey. Honey has been known for centuries to restore hairs natural properties and maintain hair shine. Honey also can be used as a hair lightener and it doesn’t strip your hair of its natural oils. Yes, it will take a little time, but as they say anything you want bad enough is worth the wait.
You’ll need a jar (glass is ideal, but you can use plastic as well) because the ingredients need to sit for about 10 minutes.
Ingredients: Raw honey (store-bought is ok), there are small traces of hydrogen peroxide in honey which will naturally lighten your hair over time.
Method 1:
In the jar, combine enough raw honey and olive oil to cover your hair. You can add a half banana for extra nourishment, if you like. Either blend the mixture or stir it by hand. You don’t want clumps in your hair so either way, make sure to blend well. Let sit 10-15 minutes for the peroxide to develop.Apply the mixture to your entire head and let it sit for 30-40 minutes.
Method 2:
Take your favorite store-bought hair conditioner and in the jar combine 1 part honey with two parts conditioner. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
Apply the mixture to your entire head and let it site for 30-40 minutes.
With either honey mixture, wrap your head in plastic and then a towel if you like to catch and dripping while you wait the 40 minutes. Wash and style your hair as you normally would. After about four times of doing this process, your hair will start to gradually lighten.
