Black Panthers (1968)
directed by Agnès Varda
This film was shot during the summer of 1968 in Oakland, California around the meetings organized by the Black Panthers Party to free Huey Netwon, one of their leaders, and to turn his trial into a political debate. They tried and succeeded in catching America’s attention.
You also get great archival footage and interviews with: Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael), Kathleen Cleaver, Huey Newton, Eldridge Cleaver and many other political figures of that era. Added to that, you get a sense of what many in that time felt, and the socio-economic/political circumstances that lead to the black power movement.
