Call for Papers:
Arab Culture in the U.S.
(SW TX PCA Conference, New Mexico)

The following is a call for papers for the Area, Arab Culture in the U.S., at the 34th Annual Conference of the Southwest/Texas Popular Culture & American Culture Associations on February 13-16, 2013 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Conference Theme: Celebrating Popular/ American Culture(s) in a Global Context
Proposals for papers, panels, and roundtables are now being accepted for the Area, “Arab Culture in the U.S.” In addition to academic presentations, artists (e.g., poets, musicians, and dancers) are welcome to perform their work.
Here is a possible but not exhaustive list of topics – other themes/topics are encouraged:
To submit a proposal of 250 words (beginning September 1, 2012), visit this link. You will be asked to log in or create a new account if you haven’t used this database before. Panel ideas should include one proposal of 200 words describing the panel and indicating which authors and proposals are to be included on this panel. Proposal authors must each create an account and submit their own proposals at the link provided above.
- Arabs in American media
- Arab film in the U.S.
- Arab drama, poetry, and prose in the U.S.
- Arab music and dance in the U.S.
- Arab immigration to the U.S.
- Arabs in the U.S. after the 9/11 attacks
- Arab political, religious, ethnic, linguistic, and sexual identity in the U.S.
Graduate students are particularly encouraged to participate in the conference. They have several awards available to them. For more info on that, click here.
