PUB: Cider Press Review Book Award

The 2010 CPR Book Award Opens September 1

The annual Cider Press Review Book Award offers a $1,500 prize, publication, and 25 author's copies of a book length collection of poetry. Author receives a standard publishing contract. Initial print run is not less than 1,000 copies.

The final judge for the 2010 CPR Book Award will be Patricia Smith.

Submitting Work to Cider Press Review

The editors read submissions of individual poems from April 1 to August 31 each year, and full manuscripts (in conjunction with the CPR Annual Book Award) between September 1 and November 30 each calendar year. Entries received outside of the submission period will be recycled without comment.

Manuscripts may be submitted either electronically or by mail. Submit 48-80 pages of original poetry in English not previously published in book form (individual poems may have been previously published in journals, anthologies, and chapbooks). Contest entry fee: $25.00. All entrants will receive a copy of the winning book and a one-issue subscription to Cider Press Review. Entrants are encouraged to remit the $25 Book Award entry fee via PayPal.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All manuscripts should be typed, single-spaced, and paginated, and must include a title page listing ONLY the name of the manuscript.

Manuscripts must include a table of contents page(s), and an acknowledgements page listing previous publication credits. We strongly suggest authors place the manuscript name and page number in the header or footer of each page.

To submit manuscripts electronically:

  • Complete the online form on the Book Award page (after Sept. 1), being careful to include all contact information: author's name, address, phone number and email address. All communication about the book award will be sent to the submitted email address.
  • All manuscripts must be in MS-Word for PC or .pdf format. Manuscripts in other or unreadable formats will not be considered.
  • Upload your manuscript using the form on the Book Award page. DO NOT include the author's name in the manuscript title.
  • Manuscripts will be held pending receipt of the $25.00 entry fee. Authors are encouraged to use the PayPal link to pay via credit or debit card. Authors preferring to use a check or money order may send payment to the address below.

To submit manuscripts by mail:

  • Manuscripts must be postmarked between September 1 and November 30.
  • Enclose 2 title pages: Name, mailing address, phone number, and email should appear on the first title page only. (Does not apply to electronically-submitted manuscripts, for which the entry from serves as cover sheet.)
  • Mailed, hard-copy manuscript should be typed, single-spaced, paginated, and bound with a spring clip.
  • Enclose SASE for announcement of the winner only; Manuscripts cannot be returned.Cider Press assumes no responsibility for damaged or lost manuscripts.
  • Include a check or money order for $25.00 payable to Cider Press Review, or pay entry fee via PayPal.
