PUB: The Claremont Review - The Annual Poetry Contest

We are always impressed by the volume and quality of the work submitted to the Annual Contest. Thank you for your participation and keep those submissions coming!

Please note: continue to submit short fiction, short plays and graphic art to The Claremont Review, but keep them separate from Annual Contest entries. Good luck and keep writing!

Contest Rules

The entry fee is $20.00 for up to 3 poems or 1 story.
If you would like to submit both genre's (poetry & fiction) the entry fee is $25.00.
All entrants receive a one year subscription to The Claremont Review.

  • Send us a separate cover letter that includes: your name, address, phone, e-mail information, the categories entered, the titles of your pieces, and a short bio. Fiction entries please include a word count. Please do NOT put your name on the entries themselves.
  • Include S.A.S.E. (self addressed stamped envelope) for notification of results.

  • Submissions from outside Canada (including the USA!) must include either International Reply Coupons or Canadian stamps. American postage is not valid in Canada. IRCs should be at least available to order from your local post office, though they may not keep them in stock. We have heard that some US postal outlets claim not to sell them at all. Our understanding is that this is wrong: selling IRCs is an international obligation. Here is a link to the USPS website.

  • No faxed or e-mail submissions.

  • Contestants must be aged 13-19.

  • Make cheque or money order payable to The Claremont Review.

  • All entries must be postmarked by March 15th, 2011.

  • All entries will be judged anonymously and on merit.
  • Prizes

There is a total of $2000 in prizes available, with winners selected in both categories as follows:

    First Place......... $500

    Second Place.... $300

    Third Place........ $200

All winners and honourable mentions will be published in the Fall issue of the Claremont Review, and will receive one perfect bound copy of that issue.

In addition, the winners will be highlighted and their winning entries published on the abebooks.com website -- a level of exposure that most writers, young or old, only dream of. Wow.

All contest entries will be considered for publication regardless of contest results.
