ConDemtion Song
This is a siiick remake of Bob Marley's Redemption Song by Adynkrah, an upcoming artist worth looking out for. As social critique, this song song provides a fresh satirical take on the policies and behaviour of UK politicians. From Tony Blair's lies, the MP's expenses scandal (ref. to watching pornography DVDs ), government cuts, Nick Clegg's broken pledge that in part, sparked off the student protests of last November, Adynkrah gets it all in.I hope that this song will make it onto to the protest soundtrack of #demo2011, so when this song goes viral or this lying government falls :), remember where you heard it first.

Streatham’s Protest Singer – Adynkrah
Last week saw opposition against government cuts gather pace further, as several council meetings around London – including one in Lambeth Town Hall – were overtaken by protesters trying to stop the councils from voting through their budgets. Protesters accuse the Labour Council in Lambeth of doing the governments dirty work. Councillors claim they have no choice but to pass a legal budget based on the funding they’ve been given from central government. No one can win in this argument and the protests ultimately proved to be futile, as the budget was quietly voted through in a private room upstairs, while the protesters were attracting all the publicity downstairs.
One Streatham resident has taken a very different approach to her opposition of the governments policies. Amma Mensah contacted Streatham Pulse to voice her concern at the current state of the country/economy, saying that “rather than smash windows at Millbank and attack the royal convoy, (unfortunately leading to the branding of all disgruntled students as violent anarchists), I decided to write a song”. The song she’s written is a reworking of Bob Marley’s Redemption Song, which she has re-titled ConDemtion Song. She describes it as “a refreshingly satirical take on British politics”. She’s also made a very good video to go with it.
The song is released under the pseudonym, Adynkrah. Her boig claims that “Adynkrah was born on the 30/01/2011. Although she has only just arrived she has come equipped with a number of firm beliefs and values; none more prevalent than honesty, unity and respect. She lives somewhere between truth and ignorance, sanity and freedom. Just like the rest of us”!
Amma was in fact born in St Georges and has lived in Streatham her whole life. She’s a prolific songwriter and is currently working on an EP, which she hopes to release later this year. Her music is varied and eclectic but protest songs play a significant part. She describes protest music as “immensely important and effective! Music is something that can talk to everyone on all levels of society and in all languages of the world. Even if you are unable to understand the words, music communicates on levels deeper than conscious understanding. Music has always been used in campaigns to successfully promote ideology, sometimes to the listeners’ detriment. So why not the other way around”? She’s inspired by James Brown, Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman and Redemption Song’s original writer, Bob Marley, all of whom she describes as “great political and social activists”.
