South Sudan National Anthem
Pete Muller reports on the creation of southern Sudan's national anthem.
After decades of costly secessionist war, southern Sudan sits on the cusp of independence. In January, southern Sudanese will cast votes in a referendum, the outcome of which will determine if this vast and oil-rich region remains tied to northern Sudan or breaks free to form the world’s newest country.
With pro-independence sentiments running high in the south and separation appearing inevitable, a group of southern musicians from the region’s main university in southern capital of Juba, have undertaken the arduous task of creating a national anthem.
